Are Tampons Really Dangerous?

It’s not the first time you’ve asked me to share my opinion about tampons as an intimate hygiene product. Although I’ve talked about this before, I decided to write a detailed post so that you have no more questions left.

Don’t forget to hit like ❤️

So, I don’t demonize tampons, but I do urge you to use them moderately, only when necessary☝🏼 Tampons have been on the market since 1933, but of course, they are different from what we see now. However, even modern tampons cannot be called a completely safe product:

1️⃣ A tampon increases the risk of developing Toxic Shock Syndrome. This is a rapidly progressing and hard-to-treat staphylococcal infection that can lead to dire consequences 😵

2️⃣ A tampon does not allow menstrual blood to flow out freely from the vagina, and this always creates conditions for bacterial growth 🦠

3️⃣ And most importantly — for girls who frequently suffer from thrush and various intimate discomforts, I strongly recommend forgetting about tampons altogether 🙅🏽‍♂️

If you still decide to use tampons, do not neglect the following rules:

✔️ wash your hands thoroughly before using a tampon;
✔️ use cotton tampons;
✔️ choose tampons with minimal absorbency;
✔️ do not use tampons while sleeping;
✔️ change the tampon every 3–4 hours;
✔️ be alert for symptoms of Toxic Shock Syndrome — high fever and low blood pressure, dizziness.

The safest menstrual hygiene product during your period is a regular sanitary pad. Not reusable pads, not menstrual underwear, and not menstrual cups.
